Before the Dark Souls 2 mysteries and oddities I will continue on from the Dark Souls 1 video for a moment, there have been a few comments on my video of other oddities that I want to include. The first one is from SteamPunkBurrito who mentioned that there were invisible trees in the Duke's Archive courtyard that still have collision, I went there to check and I wandered the courtyard for twenty minutes before I decided to look it up and apparently they are floating in the sky a bit, kind of like the floating door. I assume the developers were being rushed and they just left them up there.
Another commenter named Mercah had a few mysteries and oddities to mention as well like being able to kill Lautrec twice in one playthrough, some hackers on the ps3 version being able to put King Allant's soul drain effect in weapons in PvP and one I was going to mention in the last video but couldn't get footage for, you can get three sanctuary guardians in their boss room if you skip the first one in NG+ through glitches and defeat Artorias first. Here's a few other things they mentioned, this one was really interesting to me and I think I've heard about this before somewhere, apparently Witch Beatrice can cast chameleon. I think I've only summoned her twice before and I've never seen this, I just went and created a new character to try and get her to cast it but she wouldn't do it with or without enemies around, there's also really odd behavior with this summon where she hides and stays right where her summon sign is, never leaving the building. You can go as far as you want and she'll never follow you at least for me. Mercah said she wouldn't cast chameleon for them either.
There was something about the Moonlight Butterfly's arena breaking both graphically and with the sound effects if you remain in the area for too long. I assume they meant within the boss fight itself but I must of not remained in there long enough to see or hear this stuff but I believe it. Let's move onto to Dark Souls 2!
~ Majula Mansion Blue Flames ~
I wanted to start with a few secrets that almost everyone knows about, this one is about the blue flames in the Majula Mansion which is a mysterious place in itself where you can find a broken lordvessel downstairs along with the chest that would give you event weapons on certain dates after the release of the original game, the only one I got was the long sword that looked like a moonlight weapon, I think it has the same texture as the moonlight greatsword which is really neat, I'll get into the rest of the event weapons later and just focus on the blue flames for now.
This design on the floor of the mansion is supposed to be a map of Drangliec I believe, normally as you progress through the game the map will become lit with eight regular flames, after you are in NG+7 or use bonfire ascetics eight times on specific bonfires there will be mysterious blue flames on the map instead. There's a lot of conflicting ideas on what causes the flames to appear whether it's the defeat of the boss or just activating the bonfire in NG+7, there's some bonfires you can keep using the ascetics on without defeating a boss which will cause the blue flame to appear. I just checked, it's bonfire intensity 10+ that causes it.
~ Giant Face in the Memory of Jeigh ~
Everyone knows about this one, in the Memory of Jeigh there's a giant with a face, a left over from the earlier, troubled development of Dark Souls 2 when giants had faces. From the concept art they looked very generic so I think making them faceless was the right decision.
~ Majula Skybox Oddity ~
There's an unknown location in Majula's skybox, or at least thought to be unknown, it's very far in the distance past the Forest of The Fallen Giants. Some say it's Eleum Loyce, the Undead Crypt or a place that didn't make it into the game. Considering it looks like a giant wall it could be Eleum, I think that was a place already designed during the development of the game due to an unused child Shanalotte wearing what looks like winter clothing in the game files, then again I heard from somewhere that Majula would have been snowy in the past so I don't know. I also don't know where I heard that from.
~ Eye of The Priestess Effects Shaded Woods ~
This also goes for other half invisible enemies in the game, I included this thinking it also works in the original game but it surprisingly doesn't, this eye only effects the main game, outside of Eleum Loyce in Scholar of The First Sin. This is strange to me, I thought it was an oversight as if the invisible enemies in the Ivory King DLC were coded the same way as the other half invisible enemies in the main game but considering this only happens in SoTFS I suppose that's not the case.
~ Invading in Dark Chasm ~
It's possible to invade and be invaded in the Dark Chasm, the invader will appear just like the other enemies in the area. I haven't been here often, including around release but I assume this was a lot more well known around 2014.
~ No Death / No Bonfire Unused Rings ~
I don't usually talk about cut or unused content as I feel everyone already knows about it, but this one involves an interesting mystery, there's two additional rings that look similar to the rings you get for doing a no death and no bonfire run. If I'm remembering correctly I think the no death ring is the one that makes your left hand weapon invisible while the no bonfire ring does it for the right hand. If these two unused rings were in the game maybe they would have made your armor invisible such as the head slot or body, the more interesting part in my opinion is how they would have been obtained as I don't think it's ever been confirmed, what challenge would players have to take on in order to get these rings? I doubt a no hit run would be required but you never know.
~ Majula Obelisk Portuguese Text ~
In every version of the game except the Portuguese one the obelisk says, "The letters are worn beyond recognition" but in the Portuguese version it translates to "The giants crossed the seas to return home" or something similar to that. I don't have any theories on this one but it may have something to do with an earlier script of the game, we all know how different the game was during development. It's just really interesting that this can only be seen in one specific language.
~ Demon Song Boss Room Moth ~
My husband Wolfie found this one, there's actually a moth in the Demon of Song's chamber that drops an old radiant lifegem. I wonder how many people knew about this one? I've never seen it before.
I'm currently writing another post about DS1 / DS2 mysteries, that is why this one is so short. Keep an eye out!
