Everyone already knows what the pendant is but I wanted to revisit this particular item thirteen years later, by the way this is mostly a script for the video version of this post which I have yet to upload, apologies for any mistakes in this, I wasn't originally going to post the script for the video but here it is.
Video version:
https://youtu.be/Bo4eznvXSb0
https://old.bitchute.com/video/4Qx6FmSvtTqt/
---
Among the eight starting gifts you can choose one of those is the pendant, it's item description says it's a trinket with no effect but fond memories will comfort travelers. Oddly enough the item description for the pendant at one point had the text as the sunlight medal, I believe this was when the Prepare to Die Edition of the game was released, I have no idea how or why that was the case. Outside of that little oddity there's a few other things to note about it, the pendant can be obtained indefinitely from the Forest Hunter covenant after successfully defeating a host, this is a random chance and you won't always get a pendant.
Outside of obtaining it as a starting gift and through this covenant there are no other ways to obtain it, it's a fairly uncommon item but nothing like getting a slab from a Darkwraith obviously. When Dark Souls released everyone started searching for the true purpose of the pendant as it appeared to be a rather useless item at first in a game where every other item has a use, it stood out a lot.
Urban legends started on forums about how the pendant would lead to a third, true ending of the game or would open new areas. Some theories were tested such as hitting many walls in the game with the pendant in the players inventory or going into NG+ with it.
Eventually a use for it was discovered and it's pretty decent, you can get a souvenir of reprisal from Snuggly the crow for the blades of the darkmoon covenant, just one of these will help you rank up a lot easier if you're playing offline and farming the crows in the painted world for the souvenirs. It's not the most amazing discovery but everyone was pretty disappointed by it so we kept searching for another purpose.
When Artorias of the Abyss released there was an interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki which I always thought was mistranslated because it makes no sense, I should mention prior to this interview people would ask him what the purpose of the pendant is and he stated he would never tell everyone the purpose of it. Then during said interview he said he just wanted to make a joke or a prank, I'm a little confused by this, by the looks of it when he's saying it's a joke he's talking about the pendant despite it having a purpose in the game, maybe he was just being cryptic.
Speaking of the Artorias of the Abyss DLC it's interesting that to enter the DLC you need a broken pendant that assumedly belongs to him, I heard a theory that the pendant from the main game represents the chosen undead like how Manus' own pendant represents him, he must have a lot of memories with it to pull you back in the past for it. Finally, there's a third pendant from Anor Londo that was given to Artorias, the silver pendant. This pendant is oddly found in a random chest in Oolcile, the odd thing is to get to the room with the chest you need a sunlight maggot, lantern or the cast light spell, it's very unique.
This pendant is awesome in concept but it's almost never used as it's not that helpful, it reflects dark spells, both from other players and enemies and I wouldn't recommend using it against Manus honestly, I'll be showing some footage of it in action.
I don't know whether to believe these other two DLC pendants have a connection to the main one, as far as unused cut content goes there's nothing to do with any of the pendants and that's really it, my idea with this video is to maybe rekindle discussion about it online, perhaps Miyazaki or other developers will comment on it again someday.
Fast forwarding to March of 2014, Dark Souls 2 is released. And there's no pendant in here, nor in the Scholar of The First Sin version of the game. Fast forwarding again to March of 2016, Dark Souls 3 is released and there may be a reference to the pendant in the Dreamchaser's ashes, the shrine handmaiden says that these ashes are the stuff of a fool, it looks like Miyazaki's joke came full circle. Well anyway, my idea for this post / video was to maybe rekindle discussions about the pendant online and have people theorize on it again, perhaps Miyazaki or other developers will comment on it again someday.

To the anon from last year, who posted the mystic reddish-pink flower with the number above mine as the file name, the one who called me there, the one who saw my quads of my spiritual number, you've helped me greatly that day and brightened my path. I was cleaning my room and picked up a game OST off my floor to put it back on my shelf when I sensed a message telling me to visit that board as fast as possible. I don't know why you summoned me and offered your words to help me, a stranger, maybe you received the same kind of message to post there.
I give you my blessings, strengthened by God, Jesus Christ, Angels, Kami-sama. My soul is with me always, purified. I have gained all of the spiritual power I could ever want and I am satisfied with whenever God decides to take me. May we meet again, we have eternity to do so, but maybe we will meet in this world again. You have me and my husbands prayers and respect. You are an Angel and will be given a proper throne when the time comes.
If we meet after this world, I'll be as my true, spiritual self, given form by our creator, keep an eye out for me. I may not be the best at drawing myself but here's what I can do from what I see from my visions, in them I can only really see my snout, hands and feet most of the time! Take care of yourself if you ever read this, and also if you don't. Also be on the lookout for my own flower of my color.

Welcome to part three of my Dark Souls mysteries, oddities and secrets blog posts. The video versions of this post can be found here:

~ Lost Izalith Human Shaped Holes ~
I never looked closely at these until someone else, I forgot who, brought it up. We've all walked past these obviously but I'm sure most didn't think anything of them. Around the Fire Sage area you can find human shaped holes in the wall, it's rather creepy and I have no idea what these would have been used for, they could represent humanity.
If I had to come up with an idea for these it's simply to represent the importance of humans, even though they are a source of survival for the demons I would assume they may also honor them, I'm pretty sure most if not all come from humans anyway, although a lore expert is probably going to prove me wrong on that and I might be missing the obvious as I haven't refreshed myself on the lore in some time.
~ Titanite Demon and Primordial Serpent Connection ~
I saw someone point this out on /v/, if you look closely at titanite demons they actually resemble the primordial serpents. This is especially true when looking at the ones in unlit areas, you can clearly make out all of the features, this could be a coincidence but to me it honestly looks too close to the serpents. I have no theories at all on this, the demon titanite item description says that when a blacksmith deity passed away "beasts arose" from slabs of titanite. I know this is clearly talking about the titanite demons themselves but what if it also means other beasts such as the serpents? Frampt is associated with titanite after all.
~ The Ghost of the Gutter ~
During my no death / no bonfire run of Dark Souls 2 a few days ago (4/6/2025) I've seen something that I have never seen before, it was in the area where you drop down after rolling through the corrosive urns and pick up the fragrant branch, I went to go pick up the branch and after obtaining it I turned around to see something look up and then run off the side of the map which gave me 156 souls, nothing in the game runs this fast nor gives that amount of souls with the silver serpent ring +1 I had equipped. My friend Kaz was in the stream at the time and the thing went so fast we didn't realize it was humanoid until we went back to look at the footage, it clearly looks up in the air as it runs at a ridiculous speed off the cliff.
I will put a gif here and a link to the stream footage. At the time of me writing this I am turning my console back on and going to check the area again. I tried doing everything exactly the same as in my run a few times, I started from Majula and went back to the black gulch multiple times, just once I received some souls, I think it was the same amount but without seeing the ghost, it was when I rested at the bonfire down there and went backwards. I summoned Bashful Ray and he kept taking out binoculars and staring into the fog. I decided to set up my recording software and turn the game audio up, I started at 4,334 souls and as I was away from my console I am now at 4,620, looking at the footage my character gained souls multiple times, 143 each.
Before I received the souls I heard what sounds like splattering. I'm starting to think these are the regular hollow enemies that sometimes use dark buffs just simply walking off from where the corrosive urns are, if this is the case it doesn't explain the "ghost" (whatever it is), it's far faster than any enemy in the game and it was already down there before the urns were rolled through.
~ Dark Souls 2 Screamer ~
Around the time of the games release there was a rumor that pirated versions of the game had a screamer that would show up at random, this was mentioned a few times on the Steam forums for the game. The screamer itself was said to be the female characters death sound effect with no image shown to go along with it, it's also been stated this can happen on non-pirated versions. I would just like to say, we do not condone piracy or any other unlawful behavior here on our site. Anyway, I am not sure if this is something that ever happened or can happen.
~ Vamos' Origins / Royal Helm ~
I never examined Vamos' helm too closely but it's actually more detailed than I thought it was, I thought it was just a pure gold helm but it has gems and other details on it. The helms item description mentions it belonging to an ancient and royal line then says only Vamos would know for sure and that "he'll never speak again". The helm also has high bleed and poison resistance, not like that matters really. Considering there's such little information on this royal line there's not much else I can say or theorize on, at least other armor sets mention the name of another region outside of Lordran but this one has no name or anything to go off of.
Something I and others have noticed is the similarity to the face on the effigy shield, it looks like a skeleton wearing the royal helm but this shield was designed by one of the shield contest winners, specifically Mat Gunn. His own name for the shield was "Xenomorph's Aegis" so I assume the design is a coincidence, it's still interesting to think on though.
~ You Were Taken by The Abyss ~
There is a creepy message that appears if you take off the covenant of Artorias ring while in the Abyss but before you fight the Four Kings, as soon as you take the ring off you are slowly pulled downward into an even deeper Abyss with a unique animation before you are overwhelmed and sent back to the last bonfire rested at to which the message "You were taken by the Abyss" appears across the screen that takes a while to go away.

~ RuneScape Mysteries, Oddities, Rumors, Trivia, and Secrets Part 2 by TimeLierG - 7/30/2024 ~
* A list of some of the things that fascinate me about RuneScape or video games as a whole, my favorite thing about a game will always be the intrigue and mysteries about them, the unused content, the strange easter eggs, the question of why a developer added something. I wrote these down as they came to my mind one at a time so there's no order to them. I hope you enjoy this kind of stuff as much as I do. It should be said that I apologize for any strange capitalization, I'm following how RuneScape does it with it's items. All images belong to their respective owners, RuneScape is owned by Jagex. I am not affiliated with Jagex or RuneScape. Welcome to part two.
Video version:
Part 1 - https://youtu.be/kybi5JOwTAs
Part 1 - https://www.bitchute.com/video/TZcRFQY2va6K

~ Taverly Dungeon Magic Axe Room ~
This part is not about the axes themselves but the room they reside in, in RS1 this room features what looks like doorways resembling the one on the RS2 login screen, this might just be a coincidence. In RS2 these doorways are more generic.
~ Duck Rock Cake ~
There is intentionally disabled, unused code relating to using rock cakes on ducks, jmods have not gone into detail outside of saying something along the lines of this interaction being unsuited and inappropriate for the game, apparently someone did not like ducks. There is no way to see this code so there's no telling what this is.
~ Using a Torch on Sea Slug and Fishermen ~
There's a unique animation that plays of you scaring away the fishermen and the sea slugs when using a torch on them. If you try to bring a tinderbox to the fishing platform it says it's too damp to use it.
~ Using Fire Spells on Mummies ~
If you use fire spells on mummies they will burst into flames.
~ Temple of Ikov Boss Without Ice Arrows / Yew Bow ~
It is possible to complete the Temple of Ikov without the need for ice arrows or a yew bow, well, you'll still need ice arrows equipped. If you have them equipped you can defeat Lesarkus with thrown weapons such as throwing knives, thrown axes and darts.
~ Eye of Gnome ~
This is one of the items I meant to have on the first part, there's not much to say about it though. It's an eye of a gnome that's found on Ape Atoll, including inside of a shop, it doesn't do anything despite sounding like an Herblore ingredient. It could have been added to add flavor to Ape Atoll and make it stand out from other areas of the game.
~ Item Duplication, Archers ring, Mages book and Dagonhai, ~
I won't talk about recent item duplication glitches as these points are mostly about RS1 to late RS2. On March 19th 2014 the price of Archers' rings dropped from 900k to 5k over the span of a few days, this was the mistake of jmods trying out a new feature that would allow players who have lost items due to a glitch or by getting hacked to get their stuff back that they have lost. It's theorized that Jagex meant to give the person 6m GP but instead gave them 6m Archers rings instead and instead of reporting this to Jagex or holding onto them and selling them slowly the player proceeded to dump every Archers ring onto the market.
A similar situation happened with Mages books although I do not have information on this one.
My memory for this one is pretty hazy, when While Guthix Sleeps was released in 2008 there's a part in the quest where you receive a Dagon'Hai outfit from a dresser, up until 2011 (I think) it was possible to leave the area and walk back into the room with the outfit and obtain another one and repeat, it was that easy to duplicate this armor set. The Dagon'hai robetop specifically high alchs for 72k, you can imagine how much GP was brought into the game from this, not like it matters since squeal of fortune was released a few years later.
~ There's a Ladder for a Reason ~
If you attempt to teleport out of the Champion's Challenge the character Larxus will say, "there's a ladder for a reason". I'm not sure why this is, what kind of oversight would this be preventing? I could also mention the "Leon's champion scroll", this is an unused scroll with the examine text of, "It's a challenge from the Human Champion!". You already fight him after all of the other champions have been defeated, it must have been different at one point, maybe you would have needed to get a 1/5,000 human (Leon) scroll. One more thing I wanted to mention, I find it odd how there was no reward for doing all of this outside of around 8k Slayer xp and some Hitpoints xp, having Leon's armor and cape would have been an amazing and unique "show off" set in late 2005. Maybe something like that was planned. Wish me some luck also, after I'm done maxing I am going for all of the scrolls, I only have two as of me writing this (12/31/2024).
~ God Eggs ~
This is one I accidentally didn't include in my first part, it was written in my notes so here it is. The blue, green and red God eggs you receive in birds nests when woodcutting have always interested me, even when Summoning released I feel like the purpose they received was not the original intent, maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. Prior to Summoning they had no purpose, again, not everything needs a purpose but it definitely felt like there was some hidden purpose or meaning behind them, especially given the colors.
~ Gardening Boots ~
Released on the 6th of June, 2005, these are a pair of boots that supposedly don't do anything and are a rare drop from farmers, I just found out that these exist in 2024. I assume these were meant to serve some kind of purpose outside of roleplaying and world building.
Edit: I just found out that these had the same examine text as other farming items before farming released, they may have been intended to do something.
~ Talk to the Enchanted Gold Bar ~
You can right click the enchanted bar during MM1 and talk to it, to hear what it's saying you need to have the m'speak amulet equipped, if you do it'll say "I'm stuck in this horrible gold bar" and "Get me out of here!". If you don't have the amulet equipped it will just make monkey noises.
~ Burn Jogre Bones / Super Heat ~
You can light jogre bones and use them as a regular fire. You can also use super heat on them which gives you magic and cooking experience if I remember correctly.
~ Fremennik Slayer Dungeon Kurask Size ~
There is a single Kurak in the game that is bigger than the rest of them, I have no idea why this is but it's really interesting. I wonder if it's drop table is different?
~ God Wars Dungeon "Noob" ~
I believe this was added in very late RS2, the word "noob" is written behind certain frozen warriors in the snow. This was also added to OSRS.
~ To Be Continued ~
